A Feminist Life, Etc.

This website features the thoughts and writings of Beverly McPhail, feminist, humanist author, social worker, educator, and activist. After a difficult childhood in which her spirit was crushed, Beverly has spent the rest of her life rising like the phoenix from the ashes and working to secure social and economic justice for all people with a focus on issues of gender, race, and sexual identity. It has been a long journey and the process continues, which sometimes includes the Texas two-step, one step forward and two steps backwards.

Beverly's search for meaning has included graduate education in social work, psychotherapy, Buddhist philosophies, humanism and feminism. She wears many hats including accidental sexuality educator, mentor to young women in college, advocate for victim/survivors of violence against women, activist, vulva champion, favorite aunt, editorialist, educator, author, and feminist mother.
Humanism
The American Humanist Association defines humanism as "a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity."
